OUS, OPEU Reach Tentative Settlement
SALEM - A tentative settlement has been reached between the Oregon University System and the Oregon Public Employees
Union on a new contract for about 3,600 campus classified workers.
The settlement, announced today after a 26-hour mediation session, would establish a four-year contract.
If approved, the new contract will provide classified workers with a $38 increase to the classified salary scale
effective December 1999, plus a 2 percent salary increase in October and a 2.5 percent increase in January 2001.
Additionally, the benefit contribution for staff will be increased to $470 per month for the first two years of
the contract. The benefit increase will cover projected premium increases for employee medical coverage through
2001.
Further details are being withheld pending ratification.
The agreement covers classified workers at Eastern Oregon University, La Grande; Oregon Institute of Technology,
Klamath Falls; Oregon State University, Corvallis; Portland State University; Southern Oregon University, Ashland;
the University of Oregon, Eugene; and Western Oregon University, Monmouth.
