Higher Ed Committees, Working Group to Meet in Portland
EUGENE - A series of education meetings in Portland next week will focus on higher education budget and teacher preparation issues.
Meeting will be the Budget and Finance and System Strategic Planning committees of the State Board of Higher Education, and the Education Joint Boards Working Group.
The Budget and Finance Committee will meet from 3 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 17 in Room 327 of Smith Memorial Union at Portland State University to discuss the Oregon University System's 2001-2003 biennial budget options.
Governor John Kitzhaber has recommended a 2001-2003 budget that reduces the public universities' current service level budget by $96.1 million. Wednesday's meeting will focus on how that level of reduction will impact specific campuses and how it will affect other policy priorities.
The System Strategic Planning committee and Education Joint Boards Working Group will meet on Friday, Jan. 19. The committee will begin at 11 a.m. Its agenda will include discussion of a revised performance funding policy and the legal background on campus safety matters.
The working group meeting begins at 1 p.m. On its agenda are discussions on teacher preparation, early college options, and collaboration in distance education.
Both Friday meetings will be held in the Browsing Lounge, Room 238 of PSU's Smith Memorial Center.
All three meetings are open to the public.
