Portland, Oregon -- November 23, 2011: The Oregon State Board of Higher Education will vote in a public meeting on Monday, November 28, 2011 regarding the status of the employment agreement of Dr. Richard Lariviere as president of the University of Oregon.

“This is strictly a personnel matter, not a matter of policy,” said Matt Donegan, president of the State Board of Higher Education.  “It is in no way motivated by a difference of opinion about the future of the University of Oregon. The Board’s priority is an effective transition in leadership for the benefit of the University of Oregon and the Oregon University System.”

“With the benefit of education reforms championed by Governor Kitzhaber and passed by the 2011 Legislature, the State is poised to advance postsecondary educational attainment for all Oregonians,” said Jill Eiland, Board vice president.  “Board members and Oregon University System leaders are optimistic that this will be a successful transition.”

“The University of Oregon is one of the nation’s preeminent universities and a treasured asset of the State of Oregon,” said to Allyn Ford, chair of the Board Governance and Policy Committee.  “The Oregon State Board of Higher Education is committed to seeing the University thrive and succeed.”

The Oregon University System comprises seven distinguished public universities and one branch campus, reaching more than one million people each year through on-campus classes, statewide public services and lifelong learning. The Oregon State Board of Higher Education, the statutory governing board of OUS, is composed of twelve members appointed by the Governor and confirmed by the Oregon State Senate.
