Statement from Southern Oregon University on Jefferson Public Radio
Contact: Di Saunders, Cell: 971-219-6869; Office: 503-725-5714
Ashland, OR – June 22, 2012: Earlier this evening the JPR Foundation Board of Directors passed a resolution that they will re-enter mediation with Southern Oregon University as a way to reach a settlement to address findings from a 2011 Oregon University System audit of JPR and JPR Foundation. This is following Oregon Governor John Kitzhaber’s call for a “cooling off” period as a way to reach agreement, which both parties have agreed to, during which mediation will occur.
"We very much appreciate the Governor’s help in moving the settlement process forward and giving both parties time to reach the best outcome for Jefferson Public Radio, its listeners and our southern Oregon community," said Mary Cullinan, president of Southern Oregon University. "I believe that all parties involved share a common interest in sustaining JPR, providing outstanding public radio programming to our communities, and supporting the renovation and success of the Holly Theater. We offer our thanks to the JPR Foundation for continuing to work with us toward a solution that serves the interests of our communities, first and foremost, while meeting our legal and fiduciary obligations."
