Common Core
The Oregon University System has been working with the Oregon Department of Education and the Department of Community Colleges and Workforce Development on the implementation of the Common Core State Standards in Oregon.
"The Common Core State Standards Initiative is a state-led effort coordinated by the National Governors Association Center for Best Practices (NGA Center) and the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO). The standards were developed in collaboration with teachers, school administrators, and experts, to provide a clear and consistent framework to prepare our children for college and the workforce." These standards have been adopted by most of the United States and will allow for consistent learning experiences across the country." (http://www.corestandards.org/about-the-standards, accessed March 21, 2012).
Below you will find information about the implementation efforts, as well as relevant research on how the common core is impacting higher education.

Oregon is a member of the Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium. Smarter Balanced is a state-led consortium awarded funding from the U.S. Department of Education in 2010 to develop a next-generation assessment system aligned to the Common Core State Standards by the 2014-15 school year. OUS participates in Smarter Balanced to represent the needs and perspective of higher education in Oregon.
